How to Get Started with the Metal Works Laser Cutter

File Types, Measurements, and More

From large-scale projects from government and corporate entities to DIY solutions for small shops and hobbyists via Metal Works Supply, Metal Works has built a reputation as one of the best companies to work with in the steel fabrication business. And to take it one step further, we’ve recently expanded our capacity in CNC manufacturing with a 12kW laser, one of the most capable cutting tools on the market.

Level Up Your Metal Fabrication with Our CNC Laser

CNC Manufacturing has been with us for a while. Still, many of our clients are just starting to take advantage of it, as it only recently became accessible to small and midsize operators. There are also specific requirements to connect your computers to our tools—like different software programs and a seemingly endless selection of options, file types, and measurement systems. But at Metal Works, we make using these complex tools and processes simple.

Things You Need to Know to Use the Metal Works Laser

The capacity of the Metal Works laser’s cut surface is limited to 60 inches X 120 inches, with a maximum weight of 2200 lbs. The maximum depth of cut is 5/8 of an inch (0.625 inches). Metal Works’ laser can also only cut materials with a metallic structure. This is because the beam is so tightly focused, it can pass right through some materials without actually cutting them!

Things We Need to Know to Get Started on Your Project

To get your job started, Metal Works will need to know some things about your project: size, type of metal to be cut—aluminum, high carbon steel, etc.—the date by which you’ll need the finished project, and any delivery considerations or arrangements.

Whether your project is only an idea, a sketch on a napkin, or a completed ready-to-cut CAD drawing, Metal Works is dedicated to making sure you get what you need. We’ll meet with you right away to determine your goals and create an outline and schedule to make sure your project is a success.
