If you’ve ever wondered why your washer and dryer can take a beating, the answer is powder coating. The same applies to your bicycle frame and probably your favorite lawn chair. Powder coating creates an extremely durable surface that can withstand normal wear and tear.
Truck beds, tools, and even glass can be powder-coated to protect the surface from impacts, temperature changes, and discoloration.
So, what is powder coating? Powder coating is the process of applying a dry powder, usually a thermoplastic polymer, to a metal surface and curing it with heat or UV radiation to produce an extremely durable surface.
And guess what… Metal Works now does powder coating!

Benefits of powder coating
Like paint, powder coating is applied to metal structures to prevent rust and corrosion, but lasts exponentially longer. The coating also requires a fraction of the maintenance that paint does, so the cost of ownership is significantly lower compared to painted surfaces. It reduces maintenance and extends the product’s lifespan.
In addition, powder coating is more environmentally and employee-friendly! Because it uses a dry powder that doesn’t need solvents that contain harmful Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), it eliminates the evaporation of harmful VOCs into the atmosphere during both the application and curing stages.
Metal Works prepares the surface, then applies the colored coating, then bakes it to a specific temperature and time in large curing ovens. This process ensures the metal is protected from the elements. In special cases, the material can be galvanized prior to powder coating the help prevent corrosion even if the powder coated surface is damaged.
Powder coating does not rely on evaporation, but rather heat and/or ultraviolet light to activate the curing process. The process leaves behind an incredibly hard, rust-resistant surface that requires little to no maintenance.
Why choose Metal Works for your powder coating?
Most powder coating companies are limited to a single color run each day, because the tools must be cleaned between runs of each color. The manufacturer cannot risk contaminating one color with another, so the cleaning process removes any traces left from the previous color run. Unfortunately, this makes the process more expensive and excruciatingly slower than it should be.
Unlike traditional powder coating companies, Metal Works operates two ovens simultaneously. This double oven capacity means one oven can be cleaned while the other is working, virtually eliminating downtime. Metal Works can provide any color (or quantity) you require, any time of day.
What would you like to powder coat?
The sky’s the limit! Metal Works can apply the coating to virtually anything. The unique Metal Works process protects everything from fences and automotive frames to large structural members for decades with virtually no maintenance. Here are just a few ideas:
